What Gemini Live gives you, and what it leaves to you
Google's Gemini Live API holds a real-time voice conversation and can take video, a camera or a screen, as input while it talks. Using it directly means writing and hosting the streaming yourself: microphone audio in, speech out, video frames, reconnects, and a page your callers can open.

Other models
With your own API key, an agent can run on Qwen Omni, OpenAI's realtime model or xAI Grok Voice (voice only) instead. Keys are encrypted and never shown again, and you pay the model provider directly.
Limits worth knowing
- Free calls on the included model are limited per visitor per day and in length: see pricing. On your own key, calls last up to 10 minutes.
- The included model is shared: at busy times a caller may see "All lines busy, retrying…" for up to a minute.
- About one frame a second suits objects, labels, documents and screens, not fast movement.
- There are no phone numbers: callers use a browser on their phone or computer.
Questions
Is VoiceScholr made by Google?
No. VoiceScholr is an independent product that uses the Gemini Live API. Gemini is a trademark of Google LLC.
Do I need my own Google API key?
No. The included Gemini 3.8 Live model works without one. Add your own key only for longer calls or another model.
Are calls recorded?
No. The transcript is kept in server memory so the caller can see it, and deleted 10 minutes after the call. See privacy.
